Firm Overview
Rendon MediationHouston MediatorJosefina Rendón is a professional mediator as well as a former judge of Houston Municipal Court #5. She has been using mediation to help resolve disputes family law, employment lawsuits, and civil litigation / personal injury cases for thirteen years. “My first encounter with mediation was as a judge,” explains Rendón. “Two elderly gentlemen – long-time feuding neighbors – sat on each side of the courtroom, one charged with assaulting the other. He pleaded not guilty and his whole demeanor told me he was ready for battle. “The prosecutor had recently heard about mediation and thought the case would benefit from it. At the time, I thought the prosecutor was trying to get rid of a weak case. Nevertheless, upon the parties’ agreement, I referred them to mediation. “The result was amazing. Ninety days later they sat together in court. Their agreement included mutual apologies! The ‘victim’ promised not to throw trash in the yard of the ‘aggressor’ and the aggressor promised not to play the piano after certain hours of the night. “As a judge, I would have found the defendant guilty or not guilty, but their dispute would probably have persisted or intensified. The parties themselves resolved the core of their dispute without judicial intervention. “Years later, I am a still a firm believer in mediation and its benefits. I do not believe that because I am a mediator. Rather, I am a mediator because I believe that.”
